Start with certifications, but read them carefully. An FDA-registered facility operating under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) is the baseline for dietary supplements sold in the United States. If you plan to sell in Mexico or across Latin America, ask about COFEPRIS registration and experience with regional labeling. HACCP and documented Good Manufacturing Practices matter for functional foods and anything ingested. Ask to see the certificates, their dates, and which product categories they cover, not just a logo on a website.
Find out what the manufacturer actually does in-house. Many "manufacturers" broker your project out to third parties, which adds cost, lengthens timelines, and blurs accountability when something goes wrong. Finally, clarify ownership. Your formula, your artwork, and your brand should remain yours. Confirm in writing who owns the formulation and any custom work, and how confidentiality is handled.
